Publication Ethics Statement
Living in Languages Journal is committed to maintaining the highest standards of integrity, transparency, and accountability in scholarly publishing. Our editorial and review practices follow internationally recognized best practices in academic publishing to ensure fairness, accuracy, and respect for intellectual property. These guidelines apply to editors, reviewers, and authors to promote ethical conduct throughout the publication process.
Editorial Responsibilities
- Editors evaluate submissions solely on scholarly merit—without regard to the author’s identity, institutional affiliation, nationality, or personal characteristics.
- Editorial decisions are based on originality, methodological rigor, clarity, and relevance to the journal’s interdisciplinary scope.
- Editors and staff will not disclose information about submitted manuscripts except as necessary for peer review or publication.
- Editors must not use unpublished material from submissions in their own work without written consent from the author.
Peer Review Responsibilities
- All submissions are evaluated through double-blind peer review by at least two qualified reviewers.
- Reviewers are expected to provide fair, constructive, and timely feedback, and to maintain the confidentiality of all materials they receive.
- Reviewers must disclose any potential conflicts of interest and recuse themselves when impartiality cannot be guaranteed.
- Reviewers should alert editors to any instances of plagiarism, overlap, or ethical concern observed in a submission.
Author Responsibilities
- Authors must ensure that all submitted work is original, accurately cited, and free from plagiarism, fabrication, or falsification.
- All individuals who made a substantial contribution should be listed as co-authors, and all co-authors must approve the final version before submission.
- Authors must disclose any potential conflicts of interest or financial support relevant to their research.
- If significant errors are discovered after publication, authors are expected to promptly notify the editors to arrange a correction or retraction.
Corrections and Retractions
- If a published work is found to contain errors or ethical violations, the editorial team will issue a correction, clarification, or retraction as appropriate.
- All such notices will be clearly identified and permanently linked to the original publication to maintain the integrity of the record.
Conflicts of Interest
- Editors, reviewers, and authors must disclose any professional, personal, or financial relationships that could influence the evaluation or presentation of a submission.
- Transparency in all stages of publication helps maintain impartiality and trust.
Use of Materials and Permissions
- Authors are responsible for obtaining permissions to reproduce any third-party material, including images, figures, texts, or media.
- The journal may request proof of permission before publication to ensure compliance with copyright and licensing standards.
Open Access and Licensing
- All published work appears under the Creative Commons Attribution–NonCommercial 4.0 International License (CC BY-NC 4.0) , which allows non-commercial sharing and adaptation of the work with proper attribution.
- All publications are permanently hosted in the University at Albany’s Digital Commons repository to ensure open access and long-term preservation.
