Description
This panel session will explore the role of information for decision-making in the context of emergency management and homeland security. As apart of this session, we explore the informational needs, preferences, and practices among key stakeholders in both the public and private sector, including citizens, governmental agencies, policymakers, public officials, non-governmental organizations, and the media. Expert panelists will be asked to consider numerous questions, including: how do these decision makers obtain information? How do they process and analyze that information? How do they use that information to make decisions during both ‘blue sky’ days and emergent events? What gaps exist between current policies, practices, and procedures and the evolving needs of different stakeholders, particularly in the context of historically underserved, underrepresented, and marginalized communities? Taken together, the panelists will explore these and other issues that occur at the very nexus of information, risk, and society.
