Abstract
This study represents the first systematic herpetofaunal survey within the upland pitch pine-scrub oak barrens of the Albany Pine Bush Preserve. The main goals of this research were; 1) to fill the gap in biodiversity records for a group of highly sensitive species, and 2) to determine the habitat and landscape features that best explain species distributions and community structure of reptiles and amphibians. Many of these species occur in low densities and are near their northern most geographical limits, as determined by previous surveys, in wetter, low-lying areas.
